PCR Testing to Assess Active Infection

  • Biodesix PCR tests use highly sensitive droplet digital PCR (ddPCR) technology to identify the presence of the SARS CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19.
  • Results available within 24-48 hours of laboratory receipt.
  • Specimen collection uses a simple nasal swab, with step-by-step instructions for on-site collection and shipment of test specimens to our central laboratory in Boulder, CO.
  • Pooled testing is also available using ddPCR detection to provide a scalable, economical testing solution. Specimens from multiple test participants are combined into a single pooled sample tube for testing. If the “pool” result is positive, each of the individuals that contributed a specimen to the pool can be given an individual ddPCR test.

Antibody Testing To Assess Previous Infection or COVID-19 Vaccine Response

Comprehensive neutralizing and total antibody testing from a single blood specimen.

Neutralizing Antibody Testing

  • Fast detection of previous SARS-CoV-2 infection or response from COVID-19 vaccines.
  • Blood test with results available within 24 hours of laboratory receipt.
  • Uses ELISA technology to specifically detect neutralizing antibodies to the spike protein of the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
  • Neutralizing antibody testing is advised after at least 7 days from known previous infection or 6 weeks after initial vaccination. Routine serial testing is also recommended for monitoring vaccine response and potential need for further immunization.
  • Negative test result means that neutralizing antibodies were not found in your sample.
  • A Positive or Negative result for SARS-CoV-2 neutralizing antibodies can aid health care providers with immunization decisions and assessment of appropriate timing or boosters.

Total Antibody Testing

  • Supports rapid detection of previous SARS-CoV-2 infection after eight days from symptom onset.
  • Blood test with results available within 24 hours of laboratory receipt.
  • Detects the presence of IgM, IgG, and IgA antibodies to SARS-CoV-2.
  • A Positive or Negative result for SARS-CoV-2 total antibodies identifies who may have previously been exposed or infected by the virus.
  • Positive results for SARS-CoV-2 total antibodies are not specific to the response from COVID-19 vaccines. However, these results may indicate that a previous infection has occurred.

Dual Antibody Testing

  • Comprehensive antibody testing can be achieved though testing a single blood specimen with both Neutralizing and Total Antibody tests.
  • Results from both tests are available in 24 hours from laboratory receipt.
  • Positive and Negative results from either or both tests may aid health care providers with more complete information to support immunization decisions and assessment of appropriate timing of doses and boosters.
  • If both neutralizing and total antibody tests are negative, it is unlikely that a previous SARS-CoV-2 infection has occured.
