Chris C. Vazquez was appointed by the Board of Directors as Biodesix’s Chief Accounting Officer (CAO) effective July 3, 2023. Prior to his appointment as CAO, Chris served as the Company’s Vice President and Controller since February 2021 where he had responsibility for internal and external financial reporting, technical accounting, stock-based compensation and plan administration and the design and effectiveness of the financial reporting control environment.
Prior to joining Biodesix, Chris served as the Senior Director, External Financial Reporting for Sprint Corporation from January 2014 to October 2020 and as Director, External Financial Reporting from February 2009 to December 2013, where he partnered with other business and treasury executives to support the recapitalization of the corporation through issuances of debt and other structured asset-backed securitization transactions, raising over $50 billion to finance network upgrade projects and ongoing operations, significantly lowering Sprint’s cost of capital and diversifying its financing sources during a turnaround period. During this time, Chris gained significant experience in mergers and acquisitions, private placements, public debt and equity offerings, and asset-backed securitizations. As a key member of the due diligence and integration teams for all M&A activities, including the $22 billion merger with SoftBank and the $6 billion acquisition of Clearwire Corporation, he led all aspects of Sprint’s financial reporting and coordination of public filings related to these transactions and ensured proper compliance with all Securities and Exchange (SEC) rules and regulations. For his efforts, he was a recognized recipient of Sprint’s distinguished Leadership Excellence Award presented to executives for outstanding achievements in leadership.
Prior to Sprint Corporation, Chris held various finance and accounting leadership roles of increasing responsibility primarily in the financial services industry. Chris started his career with KPMG LLP, where he worked as a member of their audit and assurance practice for over four years serving clients in a variety of industries. Chris has over 25 years of experience in accounting, finance and leadership positions across multiple industries with extensive experience in interpreting and applying US GAAP and IFRS guidance, financial statement disclosure requirements, SEC reporting rules and regulations, Sarbanes-Oxley 404 compliance and leading teams and developing high performance cultures.
Chris holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting degree from the Henry W. Bloch School of Management at the University of Missouri - Kansas City (UMKC). Chris served as Vice President of the UMKC Beta Alpha Psi professional accounting fraternity, was an active member of the Missouri Kappa Chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity and was recognized as the Accounting Student of the Year in his graduating year at UMKC.
